This year I’m raising money for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation as we approach the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
On June 7, I’ll be climbing all 110 stories of One World Trade Center, the Freedom Tower, in NYC.
Why this matters to me:
1. Team Long Beach Waterfront Warriors
Last year I got to see the Long Beach Waterfront Warriors in action when Theo, Jess, and I were invited to their Christmas party at the Point Lookout Fire House. It was incredibly moving to watch them host families of veterans who have lost a loved one or are living with life-changing injuries, flying them in for a holiday staycation right here in our city.
They even let Theo explore his first fire truck.
I’m proud to be registered for the Tunnel to Towers event with this team.
2. 25 Years Since 9/11
With the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaching this September, it is hard to find the right words. What makes the Tunnel to Towers mission so powerful is its simplicity: support.
I still remember being a 10th grader, late to 5th period, watching the towers fall on a small TV in the janitor’s office. Later that year, my dad drove us to Ground Zero during the holidays. That memory stays with you.
Tunnel to Towers turns that memory into action by providing mortgage-free smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and building communities like the Let Us Do Good Village in Pasco County, Florida.
3. Personal Challenge
Two years ago I dislocated my left knee and was told I might need surgery, which I thankfully avoided. Since then, I’ve spent two years in slow, steady physical therapy, essentially relearning how to move well so I can keep up with my kids into my 40s.
I’ve been cautious with this knee ever since. This event is a chance to stop holding back. It’s about rebuilding confidence and seeing what I’m capable of.
