My father, Lawrence O’Donnell was a firefighter for the F.D.N.Y. He worked at Engine 290. On the tragic day of September 11,2001 he was at the site where he spent countless days, which turned into weeks, going through the pile. He willingly did this without hesitation. That’s a glimpse into the type of man he was. A selfless person who was always trying to help others.
He was an amazing person who was loved and admired by so many. He was the most loving husband and absolute best father and grandfather anyone could ever ask for. He was so full of life and truly enjoyed every little moment and made the best out of every situation, good or bad.
Over two decades later, he was diagnosed with a rare disease brought on by that horrific day. He battled and suffered unimaginably for four years. My dad passed away this past June.
My dad is my hero and an inspiration for my family and me to live our lives to the fullest, be humble, thank God and help our neighbors. All with a sense of humor. We lost an incredible person who will be forever missed beyond words. I am doing this for my amazing dad.
